(currently known as Verizon Media). As of 2021, Verizon is one of three companies that had their roots in the former Baby Bells. The other two, like Verizon, exist as a result of mergers among fellow Baby Bell members. SBC Communications, the result of a 1983 merger between AT&T Corporation and the original Southwestern Bell Corporation, acquired the former AT&T Corp. (later renamed AT&T Inc.) in 2005.
