The Department is one of the seven Departments in the School of Allied Health Sciences, College of Health and Allied Sciences. It is located on the first floor of the Science Complex building at the North Campus. The Department trains students for careers as scientists in Health Institutions and Industrial settings in line with the Health Profession’s Regulatory Bodies Bill (2010) passed by the Parliament of Ghana on 21st December, 2012.

The graduates from the Department are equipped to play a pivotal role in accurate diagnosis of disease and discovery of medicinal products. The Department runs one undergraduate programme (BSc Biomedical Sciences) and two postgraduate programmes in Parasitology (MPhil and PhD). The Dean's Award ceremony is held yearly to celebrate students who have obtained a CGPA of 3.6 and above at Levels 200 to 400.
